Mythic places, mythic beasts….

The trees of Fangorn Forest have come to Isengard:

(It’s actually Willow River State Park in Wisconsin, and a smokestack in the distance, but don’t tell.)

And here’s a photo of my friend and frequent coauthor Sarah Monette, pushing her luck with a Tyrannosaur. She is not eaten by the eels at this time.

(That’s Sue, at the Field Museum in Chicago, where I probably could have spent three days rather than three hours. No pics of the Genghis Khan exhibit, because Photography Was Forbidden, so to make it up to you here’s another photo of her.)

(Sorry about the background clutter.)

I’ve finished the first draft of October’s Shadow Unit episode, and have a pile of other small things to get out of the way before I start the big work of the autumn, which is Viable Paradise and the first two drafts of Steles of the Sky, better known as Book 3 of the Eternal Sky. (Book 2 is finished and delivered and out in March.)

All in all, I’m feeling pretty productive.

I am glad that your co-author and general partner in crime survived the dangers of the Field Museum. It is a risky place, especially if you are in the company of people who are intrigued by the prospect of liberating the blue topaz of remarkable size.

Sadly, we did not make it to the minerals. It was all Mongols and megafauna! However, I very much want to go back to Chicago and spend some time there not-at-a-con.

I need to get to Chicago, and the Field Museum in particular, one of these days…
