Steles of Sky starred Kirkus review; Audie Award noms!

Saturday, February 22nd, 2014

And to complete my heaviest blogging day in years, I think, a couple of cool things! First off, Kirkus starred review of Steles of the Sky!! Spoilers for the whole freaking series, so be cautious of your clickthrough. But the takeaway makes it all worthwhile: Considering the trilogy as a whole, the overused term masterpiece justifiably [...]

A new novella and a new novelette.

Tuesday, September 24th, 2013

Book of Iron is out tomorrow! (Some early orderers seem to have copies already.) This novella is a prequel to Bone and Jewel Creatures, although it stands alone. It’s set in the same world as the Eternal Sky books, and it features roadsters, necromancy, and miserably complicated interpersonal relationships. Like you do. You can read [...]

I has a cover art! The amazing Donato Giancola and Irene Gallo come through again.

And the days go by…

Monday, June 17th, 2013

I got up this morning and went for an 11 mile run. It was supposed to be 13, but the sun caught me and I ran out of Gatorade. Sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor–and I decided two more miles was not worth puking. Now I am drinking Vietnamese coffee and sitting on [...]

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013

I just handed in the manuscript for Steles of the Sky. 6000+ words today. It’s only about a quarter again as long as it was supposed to be. I guess that makes it a real epic fantasy now. Going to go soak my hands in ice now. And read somebody else’s book for a change.

The magic of book day squared!

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

It’s Book day, busting out all over! Of course, today is US launch day* for my own Shattered Pillars, second in the Eternal Sky trilogy. Shattered Pillars is a novel of crumblimg empire, necromancy, Rukhs, Djinni, ghulim, Wizards, tiger-warriors, martial monks, and magic ponies set in a fantasy realm inspired by the cultures, sweep, and [...]

Bear zero, exhaustion one.

Monday, February 25th, 2013

Well, I am declaring this thing a draft. It’s not by any means a good draft, but I’ve had the realization that I can’t actually write the climactic three or four chapters of the novel until I go back and fix all the bits of things I need to fix in the earlier chapters of [...]

Shattered Pillars–the excerpt!

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

An excerpt of Shattered Pillars is up at Tor.com! It does, of course, contain spoilers for Range of Ghosts, being, you know, a direct sequel. And like that.

Cover me. I’m going in.
